As a health and nutrition nut, I often find it difficult to find a place to eat that serves both nutritious food, while still having all the marks of a great restaurant: if the food is good, the service is bad; if the price point is great, the ambiance is subpar.
Luckily, this is not the case with Pita Jungle. The chain, which has now expanded to several locations across the Valley as well as California, offers fresh food with a Mediterranean twist, that’s both healthy and delicious. Appetizers such as the Hummus with Seared Ahi Tuna and Falafel Platter are large enough to serve as entree, while several flavors of hummus- including Cilantro Jalapeno and Roasted Bell Pepper, are perfect for sharing.
For a lighter meal, Pita Jungle’s salads range from sweet and chilled (The Caribbean, a mix of seasonal fruit, raisins, and shredded coconut), to hot and zesty (The Wood-Fired Salmon, served with bell peppers and a lemon vinaigrette). While most salads are likely to leave you hungry, Pita Jungle serves up heaping portion sizes with lots of flavor.
Pita Jungle’s selection of Pitas (the classic falafel, shawarma, and gyro) and Combination Plates offer guests a way to try several Mediterranean specialties like baba ganoush, tzatziki, and dolmades. Even the wood-fired pizzas have Middle Eastern flair: the Chipotle Chicken Lavosh Pizza features Za’atar, pine nuts, herbs, and feta.
One of the wonderful things about Pita Jungle in North Phoenix is that it caters to many audiences–the restaurant is always packed for business lunches and Happy Hour, while the restaurant easily accommodates young families at dinner time. Parents will be pleased to see that, unlike other “family-friendly” restaurants, the kid’s menu isn’t filled with fried junk. Kids have the option of selecting fresh vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains, and fruit; making Pita Jungle a healthy, inexpensive, and delicious option for everyone in the family.
